There are over 1,000 US universities and colleges across the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA that offer golf as part of their athletic program in the USA. Golf teams typically consist of between 6-10 athletes and golf scholarships per team range between 5-8 depending on the division and the governing body. Golf teams will play in both the fall (autumn) and the spring but their main season will be in the spring as teams prepare for their conference, regional and national championships. College and university golf tournaments are typically made up of between 8-20 teams and are played across 3 rounds, or 54 holes. As golf tournaments consist of multiple teams you will get to experience a number of different courses, compete against a variety of different teams and likely travel to a range of different towns, cities and states. The main prize at each event and at the NCAA national championships is the team prize but there are also honors for individual performances at every competition.
